Note: Effective March 8th, 2009 we have transitioned away from Wednesday Nights to Small Groups. Effective as of Mar 22nd, 2009, Sunday Evening service will begin at 5pm. The Wednesday ministries will now take place at the 5pm Sunday Service.

Why Small Groups Instead of Wed Nights? First, let's be clear the Bible doesn't teach that we HAVE to have Small Groups nor a Wed Night service. So it's not a 'must' issue. Rather, it becomes a 'what' issue. The what is 'what could benefit the training of our people and be attractive to reach out to others'? The answer that we came up with is 'Groups'.

Traditionally Wed Nights have not been the kind of service that others choose to visit. So the outreach opportunity is minimal. Plus, the hyper-active scheduling of people often led people away from being @ Wed Nights. Between long work hours, sports, homework etc people tend to opt out of Wed nights. Yet, with groups the groups get to choose the meeting time. They also get the interaction with each other around the Bible that helps growth. Adults often learn the best when there is a give and take, a wrestling with the text that takes place in an informal setting.

It is also wise to let history speak to the subject. For instance in Acts 2 the church met for a 'big service (our Sunday services) and in homes (our small groups). Disciplining pastor extraordinaire Richard Baxter wrote in the 1600s on the importance of training families in the home. A couple of centuries forward and you can see the Methodist built by John Wesley thrived because they were rooted in small groups.

Why 5pm instead of 6pm? Mainly to build more time after our service to spend time together. True, the Youth and Children programs need a little more time to fully develop their program, but much of the reasoning is so people won't feel a subconscious pressure to 'get home before it gets too late.' In addition it helps our older people who don't want to drive after dark.
